Our Farm & Gardens

Our Farm and Gardens

Our family-operated farm is located in the beautiful prairies of southern Alberta, where we grow fields of wheat, barley, canola and peas in rotation. Although it’s common practice today, we were early adopters of soil conservation practices, setting the intention to nurture soil health and maintain natural habitat for the many species of wildlife that reside here.  Our “home place,” where Blue Eggs and Blooms flower gardens are located, is in east Wheatland County, overlooking the Crowfoot Creek to the west and the Bow River Valley to the south.

What Grows in the Gardens?

Each season I grow a variety of specialty cut flowers and foliage, some of which are old-fashioned and well-loved favourites and some new to me. I love experimenting and learning as I grow! What follows is a general listing of what is seeded, weeded, and gathered seasonally here at the farm:

Sweet Peas, Larkspur, Nigella, Sunflowers, Strawflowers, Orlaya, Summer Asters, Amaranth, Amaranthus, Eucalyptus, Ranunculus, Anemone, Peony, Allium, Dianthus, Rudbeckia, Yarrow, Snapdragons, Mahogany Hibiscus, Oregano, Basil, Dahlia, Statice, Cosmos, Panicum Sprinkles, Bunny Tails, Zinnia, Noblessa, Marigold, Zinnia, Winged Everlasting, Pincushion

Our Name — Blue Eggs and Blooms

So many people tell me how much they love the name of my cut flower business. My daughter Rachel’s hens sing to me while I spend time in the garden. They are a flock of sweet heritage hens that lay the prettiest blue eggs.
